From the Pastor October 2024

We’ve been watching with concern as Hurricane Helene made its way across our own backyard, threatening our homes, communities, and lives. In moments like these, nature’s power can feel overwhelming, and the uncertainty can bring anxiety and fear. We are reminded of how small we are in the face of such immense forces beyond our control.

But today, I want to talk about a power even greater than any storm—the power of prayer. While we cannot always control the winds or calm the waves, we serve a God who can. And though we may feel helpless, we are never powerless. James 5:16 reminds us that “the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

We should use this divine gift in all circumstances whether we  are suffering, rejoicing, seeking healing, or asking for forgiveness. Prayer must be our first response and not our last resort. When we pray, we invite God into our pain to bring us great  comfort. We ask  for God’s help and declare our trust in his presence and power. We pray to express our gratitude to God and praise his mighty works among us.

We also pray for other people, especially for those who are spiritually lost. Prayer is not just about our personal needs; it’s also about the community. We are called to pray for the spiritual life of our family, friends, neighbors, and all people. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to encourage God’s children to seek him! It’s an important responsibility to invite people to a faith which can save their lives from eternal death. Your prayer matters.

I would like to encourage you to make a commitment to deepen your prayer life. Whether you need healing, know someone who is suffering, or want to pray for the wandering soul, believe that God hears and responds to the righteous prayer.

Finally, I would like to share with you two things: First, we are working on how to help the community impacted from Hurricane Helene. The impact of the damage will not end in a week or two, but will continue for weeks, possibly months. So please share with us your thoughts. If  you  wish  to donate a gift (water, nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, gift cards, etc.), please bring it to the church and we  will be happy to deliver it.

Second, I would like to thank all of you who have supported our church mission program in various ways. Your prayer, time, effort, and financial gifts have helped our church to continue to do great things in God’s kingdom. I would like to encourage you to  continue your support and consider an extra donation during these coming months.

Blessings!
